Before you get married, you may wish to consider attending a course on marriage education. You are investing a lot of money and time in your wedding day - a marriage education course costs only a small amount (under $150 usually) and may act as a protection against the costs, both personal and financial, of a marriage breakdown.
Many marriage education costs ask you to explore questions you might think you know the answers too but have not discussed with your partner. For example, have you talked about having children? Do you both want children? Will both parents work after having children or will one parent stay home and who would that be? Will you still see your old friends and have nights out without your partner? Who will do the housework? Do you come from similar cultures and backgrounds? If you do not, what happens in your partner's culture when people marry? What happens in your culture? Does your partner's family expect you to visit them regularly after marriage? Do they approve of you? If they do not, have you and your partner discussed how to handle this? Will you manage your finances jointly or separately?
Some marriage education providers now offer gift certificates - your parents or friends may like to give you a marriage education course.
